Changing Philippine Climate: DOST-NAST’s Most Outstanding Book for 2015

Launched last 29 August 2014 in Diliman, Quezon City, the book “Changing Philippine Climate: Impacts on Agriculture and Natural Resources” bagged the 2015 Outstanding Book Award given by the Department of Science and Technology- National Academy of Science and Technology (DOST-NAST). The award was given last 9 July 2015 at the Manila Hotel during the Annual Meeting of DOST-NAST. The book is a result of a collaboration of experts in the fields of  environmetrics, spatial modelling, and climatology.  The coordinating lead authors for the book included Dr. Josefino C. Comiso of NASA, Dr. Catalino A. Blanche of USDA, Dr. Terry I. Sangumba of Georgia Pacific,  Dr. Ma. Victioria O. Espaldon of SESAM and CAS Dean and INSTAT Professor Dr. Felino P. Lansigan. Among its lead authors are Roger C. Birosel of Earth Science Movement, and UPLB faculty members namely Dr. Nestor T. Baguinon, Dr. Jesusita O. Coladilla, Dr. Leonardo M. Florece, Dr. Rafael D. Guerero III and former UPLB Chancellor  Dr. Rex Victor O. Cruz, Dr. Rafael D. Guerero III and Dr. Leonardo M. Florece of CFNR .

“Changing Philippine Climate: Impacts on Agriculture and Natural Resources” covers a wide spectrum of the causes and effects of climate change on farming practices as well as managing natural resources. It builds a solid foundation on data collected by local and international organizations. A number of figures presenting historical data on meteorological measurements included in the book were obtained from the many researches done by Dean Lansigan and his colleagues. The book being multi-disciplinary enables the readers, especially those into environmental research, to further understand climate change in the Philippine setting. Published international researches were also included to assert the pressing need of discussing climate change in local setting. Aside from a rich discussion of the causes and effects of climate change, this book also includes topics on climate change mitigation and adaptation techniques that are suited for both researchers and practitioners. Copies of the book are now available in major commercial and university bookstores across the country.
