The UPLB CAS Institute of Statistics, in partnership with the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine – Department of Health (RITM-DOH), successfully conducted a four-day training workshop entitled “Statistical Methods and Data Analytics Training” from 21 to 24 May 2024. This event, funded by the Philippine Business for Social Progress, aimed to enhance the statistical and analytical skills of 15 RITM-DOH employees.

Held at the Crimson Hotel in Muntinlupa City, the training focused on equipping the participants with foundational and advanced statistical concepts, data management, experimental design, survey operations, correlation and regression analysis, non-parametric methods, and effective statistical reporting and infographic design.

The training covered seven topics designed to provide participants with a clear understanding of statistical methodologies and their practical applications. The training included hands-on exercises, which allowed the participants to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios and data sets. On the final day, the participants presented their research proposals, which included the background, study objectives, and proposed methodology. The learning service providers from INSTAT who also acted as the panel provided valuable feedback so that the participants could refine their research approaches.

This training program serves as a prerequisite for more advanced statistical training courses, including data analytics. It reflects the ongoing commitment of INSTAT and government institutions such as the RITM-DOH to empower employees with the necessary skills to use data effectively for evidence-based decision-making. Participants expressed that they are now well-prepared to apply statistical methods in their respective roles, contributing to the advancement of health research and policy development in the Philippines.
