Dr. Eliezer A. Albacea
2015 UPLB Outstanding Alumnus for the Advancement
of Computer Science and Information Technology

Dr. Eliezer A. Albacea is a UPLB professor and an Academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Philippines. Realizing the potential of UPLB in computer science and information technology, Dr. Albacea was the main proponent in the institution of such programs in UPLB. He was the main proponent of the institution of the MS Computer Science, PhD Computer Science, and Master of Information Technology degree programs in UPLB.

Mr. Romeo S. Recide
2015 College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Alumnus
for Instruction and Research

Mr. Romeo S. Recide is the Interim Deputy National Statistician for Sectoral Statistics of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Mr. Recide is a highly respected teacher in two of the premier schools in the Philippines. He taught at the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) as Instruction Specialist and at the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) as Assistant Professor. He transferred to UPLB after five years of teaching in PSHS. For 11 years, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Statistics at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics.

Dr. Zita VJ Albacea
2014 UPLB Outstanding Alumna
for Education and Institution Management

Dr. Zita C. Villa Juan – Albacea is a UPLB Professor and the current Executive Director of the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute of the Philippine Statistics Authority. Dr. Albacea has shown her undeniable and whole hearted support for the College of Arts and Sciences by initiating breakthrough projects and putting in place administrative protocols for better management and improved efficiency of administrative offices for which she had been tapped to head. She is also a member of the CHED Technical Panel for Statistics.

Dr. Isidoro A. David
2013 UPAA Distinguished Alumni Award

Dr. Isidoro A. David is a respected survey statistician recognized not only in the Philippines but also in the international circle. His interest and passion for survey statistics have lead to improvement of various surveys conducted by local government institutions as well as those in other developing countries. His personal and professional involvements have given him a stature and credibility as a prime survey statistician, an academician, and a public servant. In 2007, Dr. David was awarded the Mahalanobis International Award in Statistics, making him the first Filipino recipient of the award.

Dr. Arturo Y. Pacificador
2013 College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Alumnus Award

Dr. Arturo Y. Pacificador is an associate professor and the current Chair of the Department of Mathematics of De La Salle University Manila. His research interest is the development of strategies for national surveys. His expertise made him a sought-after survey statistician, serving as consultant on international survey projects for United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Dr. Edsel A. Peña
2012 College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumnus
for Instruction and Research

Dr. Edsel A. Peña is recognized for his sincere efforts in developing statistical methods relevant to biomedical research such as that of colon cancer. His research interest made him publish a total of 65 insightful papers, book reviews and book chapters, most of which deal with nonparametric statistics and biostatistics. He was also praised for holding exemplary teaching positions in UPLB and other top universities in the US.

Dr. Maria Matilde Sanchez-Kam
2012 College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumna
for Pharmaceutical Research

Dr. Maria Matilde Sanchez-Kam is recognized for her contributions in developing drugs for the betterment of people’s health worldwide. Her strategic and scientific oversight work for activities related to diabetes compounds gave her an opportunity to interact as consultant to several regulatory agencies such as the Federal Drug Administration of the US, European Union, Japan, Korea and other countries.
