The UPLB CAS Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Nancy A. Tandang, PhD, as its new Director, effective August 26, 2024, to August 25, 2027. Dr. Tandang, who has been with INSTAT for over two decades, brings a wealth of experience in both academic and public service, positioning her well to lead the institute forward.
Dr. Tandang has previously served in several leadership roles, most recently as Director of the University Publications Office. She has also been the Head of INSTAT’s Survey Sampling Division and Coordinator for Instruction, as well as an active member of numerous committees at the institute and college levels. Her leadership and dedication have been evident throughout her career.
In her 24 years of service, Dr. Tandang has made significant contributions as an educator, researcher, and extension worker. She was recognized with the CAS Outstanding Senior Faculty Award in 2017 and the CAS Outstanding Extension Personnel/Public Service Award in 2022. Her expertise in statistics has made her a highly requested resource person for various training programs, both within the university and for external organizations. She has worked closely with units such as the Institute of Human Nutrition and Food of the College of Human Ecology, and the College of Development Communication, as well as government agencies like the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute and the Department of Education.
As INSTAT’s new director, Dr. Tandang envisions an “INSTAT FAMILY” approach, highlighting the institute’s focus on fostering collaboration, academic achievement, and public service. Her vision centers on promoting success through teamwork and research partnerships, upholding integrity in academic and public service, and cultivating leadership within the institute. She emphasizes creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and connected.
With Dr. Tandang’s leadership, INSTAT is set to continue its commitment to excellence in statistical education, research, and public service, building on its strong foundation to advance the field in the Philippines.
