INSTAT's first face-to-face orientation during COVID transition

September 5, 2022 was the first time the Institute of Statistics held a face-to-face student orientation to welcome the BS Statistics students, Batch 2022 at the CAS Auditorium after a two-year hiatus. This activity was graced by the INSTAT director, Dr. Liza N. Comia, and the CAS Dean, Dr. Sese by giving their inspiring messages. Dr. Comia emphasized that Honor must come first before Excellence while Dr. Sese emphasized the difference between privilege and responsibility by saying that it is a privilege to be in UP and to be the best of themselves and reminded the students about their responsibility for the country.

In the program proper, Dr. Comia also introduced the faculty and staff of the Institute to the students while the head of the curriculum committee, Dr. Joyce Grajo explained the details of the BS Statistics curriculum to guide the students in the next four years. 

A response from a new BS Stat Student, Ms. Adrienne Solis reiterated about Honor and excellence and a message for the new students was also delivered by a senior BS Statistics student, Ms. Janella Olan who reminded the students about the importance of a support system in order to survive college life. 

A CAS Student Council representative was also in attendance to introduce the members of the student council and elaborate on their activities and encourage the new students to join block assemblies to share their concerns and whereabouts related to their chosen programs and campus life.

An open forum highlighted the activity, and the closing remark was delivered by the head of the Student Welfare Committee, Prof. Dating who elaborated on the existing committees which can be of support to the students.
