A Glimpse at INSTAT Research and Extension Activities for 2015

In response to the challenge posted by climate change, Project SARAI, funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) was launched in November 2013. SARAI which stands for Smarter Approaches to Reinvigorate Agriculture as an Industry (SARAI) consists of five component projects. One of the main components of the Project SARAI is Project 1. Model Development and Crop Forecasting , is based at INSTAT, with Dr. Felino P. Lansigan as Project Leader. The project aims to construct crop models using processed based and/or empirical models for six major crops namely: rice, corn, coconut, banana and coffee/cacao. These models will be used to provide timely crop advisories to farmers and other  agricultural stakeholders. INSTAT Director Dr. CE Reaño serves as Commodity Leader for Coconut in Projects 1 and 2 of SARAI.

2015 Curriculum and GE Courses Orientation For BS Statistics Freshmen

The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) held its annual BS Statistics Curriculum and GE Orientation for freshmen students last September 29, 2015 at the INSTAT Lecture Hall, organized by the instruction committee headed by Prof. James Roldan S. Reyes. The goal of the said activity was to familiarize new freshmen students to their BS Statistics curriculum and to advise them on how to graduate with minimal amount of time. The activity included discussions of BS STAT curriculum, RGEP courses and Systemone.

INSTAT Holds Roundtable Discussion for Curriculum Review

As part of the upcoming changes due to K-12, INSTAT conducted a roundtable discussion last August 6, 2014 at the INSTAT Lecture Hall.  This was part of its preparations for the curriculum review for crafting and/or adjusting its existing BS Statistics curriculum in the light of the university’s thrust to adopt the Outcome-Based Education principles.  Spearheaded by the INSTAT Instruction committee, key resource persons were invited in the half-day discussion with the INSTAT Faculty.
